Week 5

The ant is very helpful and leads you for a long while. Then, all of the sudden it starts to rain. The rain gets harder and harder and turns into a heavy rain storm.

  • Ant: I am sorry but I a fearful that I may drown so I must go underground. Good luck on finding your way out of the rainforest.

  • The ant leaves you and you think about how much you which you had bought a raincoat and an umbrella. It rains and rains and you wonder if it will ever stop. You find a tree with a large hole in the trunk. You squeeze inside of it. It’s tight fit but at least you are of the rain. A monkey hears you grumbling about the rain an decides to squeeze in to the trunk to get out of the rain as well.

  • Monkey: why are you complaining about the rain?

  • You tell the Monkey that where you live it does not rain so much. You then tell monkey that you are trying to get out of the rainforest and are lost.

  • Monkey: Well, I will tell you what, if you can stop grumbling about the rain and tell me why it is so important that is rains so much more in the rainforest than where you live then I will help you for part of your journey.

You agree. What should you tell the monkey?

  1. It’s not important; it only has to rain as much as it does in the United States.

  2. It’s important because so many plants need a lot of water to grow.

  3. The rain allows the animal to stay cool because it is always so hot in the rainforest.

Please research the climate of the rainforest and make your choice and explain your answer.

Week 4

You realize you have a long way to go and you need help from a rainforest critter who knows the forest floor really well. You luckily meet three animal that say they will help you find your way out. Who will you follow?

Please decide which insect you will follow and tell me why. Please also tell me about the insect you choose.

Week 3

You realize that you need to climb the trees so that you can see how to get out of the rainforest. You remember learning that the Emergent level is the level where the very top of trees emerge into the sky and it is very high. Now you just need to find the best way to the top. Several animals offer to help to climb to the top of trees:

Please choose one of these animals (or another rainforest animal that climbs trees). Tell me about this animal and explain why you picked it

Week 2

You start walking in the direction that you think will take you out of the rainforest. The sun begins to set and you begin to think you have been going the wrong way. You are tired and hungry but you remember that most of the food people eat today originally came from the rainforest. What type of food should you look for to eat?

Which food would choose and why and where would you find it? (You may choose a food from the rainforest not listed above)

Week 1

You decide that it would be helpful if you could see above the trees so you know which direction to walk in. Which level of the rainforest should your climb to?

Please describe what level you would like to be on, and what things (ex: plants and animals) you would see there.

Getting Started!

You begin your journey at the edge of the rainforest. As you enter your senses go wild. You hear the beautiful songs of exotic birds, you smell the blossoms of flowers and you see the lushness of the forest. You immediately become very excited and run on ahead of your group. Before long you realize you are deep in the forest and your group is no where to be seen. Now it is up to you to use what you have learned so far about rainforests to successfully journey through the rainforest.
